Mary Ellen Spears, born on October 8, 1929, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She passed away on September 12, 2024, peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and kindness. Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the age of 14 on April 18, 1943, her faith and dedication to Jehovah God shaped her life and the lives of those around her. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Teddy Spears, Mary Ellen is survived by her five children: Timothy Spears, Teddie Ann Spears, Kim Lee Spears, Tammie Calvert (husband Lawrence), and Christine Simonson (husband Bob). She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she lovedand felt blessed to be a part of their life. Doris Juanita Frazier “Johnnie” of Beaumont, Texas, peacefully completed her earthly journey on September 10, 2024. Born on August 29, 1931, to Willie Phillips and George Mayo, Doris recently celebrated her 93rd birthday surrounded by family. Raised in DeQuincy, Louisiana, she later moved to the Rio Grande Valley before settling in Beaumont, where she attended Hotel Dieu School of Nursing. After graduation, she embarked on a lifelong career in nursing and married the love of her life, Robert Edward Frazier, Jr., in December 1953. She began her professional journey in Labor & Delivery at St. Therese Hospital, continuing at St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1962. She assisted in bringing many babies into this world. Nurse Johnnie was highly thought of by every physician she worked for and with. She proudly retired from the OB-GYN practice of Dr. Armitage Harper and Dr. Henry Clarke. Fred Hillebrandt left this world on September 7th, 2024, just three short weeks after Mary Hillebrandt, his wife of forty-three years, left us. Born in 1934, Fred was a Beaumont native and a hero of both the Vietnam and Korean Wars, having served eighteen years in the United States Army. Fred will leave behind numerous family members, friends, and friends of family. But he will live on in each and every one of us that his life has impacted. A gathering of Mr. Hillebrandt’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Blain Hendrix, 27, of Vidor, died Tuesday, September 3, 2024. He was born on December 11, 1996, in Lake Jackson. Survivors include his mother, Chrissy Warren of Beaumont; father, Burson Warren, of Beaumont; fiancée, Lauren Moorehead, of Vidor; son, Beaux Warren Hendrix, of Vidor; stepdaughters, Lyndsi and Lanah, of Vidor; and brothers, William Hendrix and his wife, Shannon, of Angleton; Kobi Hendrix and his wife, Alyssa, of Lake Jackson; and Brock Warren of Beaumont. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Barbara Ferdig and Winnie Jones. Floral tributes may be sent to the Warren residence, 6150 Barrington Avenue, Beaumont. Bessie Mae “MawMaw” Fontenot, 92, of Beaumont, died Monday, September 2, 2024, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on October 30, 1931, to Constance Thibodeaux Miller and Sidney Dominic Miller, in Beaumont, Texas. She grew up in a large, Cajun family with her eight brothers and sisters during the Great Depression. Because of this, she was very frugal and not being wasteful was something that stayed with her all her life. She grew up in Beaumont and attended St. Anthony Catholic School. Bessie married Gilbert (deceased) in 1955. When Gilbert joined the United States Army, Bessie assumed her role as homemaker and took great pride in keeping a tidy home. She immersed herself in “Army life”, including living abroad in Germany and Hawaii, where their two sons (Richard And Sidney) were born. They met many lifelong friends in the Army. Being on God’s Earth for 97 years, Yvonne Marie Janise Godeaux lived a life well loved, filled with hard work, lots of family, and fun times gathered around food and friends. Yvonne was born in Church Point, Louisiana to Charles and Clorise Janise on March 2, 1927, the second oldest of nine children. At the age of 16, she moved to Texas where she ended up living out her life. On March 31, 1945, Yvonne married Ophey Val Godeaux while he was on Active Duty in the Army during World War II, and they later settled in China, Texas. Married for 54 years, Yvonne and Ophey shared a wonderful life raising their four children. Ralph Burrage, a retired Southern Baptist minister, passed away on August 18, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on October 23, 1943, in Hollywood, Florida, Ralph dedicated his life to serving God, spreading the Gospel, and mentoring countless young ministers along the way. His educational journey began at Mississippi State University, and he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary before pursuing God’s calling in ministry full-time. He was fond of citing Proverbs 16:9“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps”– and this guided his entire life. In 1971, Ralph married the love of his life, Yvonne Burrage, and together they built a strong, faithful marriage that spanned over five decades. Jerry Allen Yancey was born on February 19, 1943, in San Diego, California to John Woodrow Yancey, Sr. and Alice Gertrude Barnett. Paul Wayne Schlett, 62, of Houston, passed from this life on Sunday, August 4, 2024, with family, physician, and friends by his side. He was born on October 5, 1961, in Beaumont, Texas to Ruby Lee Fancher and Paul Henry Schlett. While growing up in Southeast Texas, he became an avid Dallas Cowboys fan as well as a Houston Astros Fan. Participating in school sports, sandlot and organized baseball leagues, Paul gained the reputation of a competitive first baseman with exceptional hitting skills. At ten years old, he was voted to the YMBL Little League All Stars with boys one and two years older than him. After high school, Paul worked a stint with Golden Gators AA Team in Beaumont and afterwards with his father, opened up a baseball memorabilia shop in Beaumont. Helen Elizabeth Goodhue, 86, of Beaumont, died Friday, August 2, 2024, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on August 1, 1938, to Ellen Elizabeth Whitehead Tucker and Leonard Alvie Tucker, in Luling. Survivors include her children, Bobby McCauley; Mary Pelton and her husband, Curtis; Beatrice Mears; and John Goodhue and his wife, Lauren; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby Leonard Tucker; and numerous friends, extended family, and loved ones. A gathering of Ms. Goodhue’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 8, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7785 Weaver Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Morse Cemetery, Buna, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Arnold Thomas Kay, 83, of Fannett, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, with family at his side due to complications of Huntington’s Disease and other illness. Arnold Thomas Kay was born on December 12,1940, in Houston, Texas, during World War II. He grew up on the North side of the downtown Houston area, where he attended Sam Houston High School. After high school, Mr. Kay served in the United States Navy for four years on the Battleship USS Hull. He considered it an honor to serve his country during Vietnam. Robert Lynn Poole, 75, of Beaumont, Texas, went to live with the Lord July 29, 2024, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, Texas. Born and raised in Orange, Texas, Lynn was a 1967 graduate of West Orange High School. After graduation, he served in the US Army two years in Fairbanks, Alaska. Upon returning home, he moved to Mauriceville, Texas, and went to work as a carpenter for Gulf Oil Co. In his 40s he decided to go back to school and graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston as an occupational therapist. He went on to get a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Stephen F. Austin State University and worked the next 20 years as an occupational therapist In his 30s Lynn gave his life to the Lord and remained a faithful Christian throughout his life. Lee Broussard, 86, of Nome, died Sunday, July 28, 2024. He was born on July 30, 1937, in Beaumont, to Edith Ruby Sherrod and Joseph Hathorne Broussard. Lee was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Nome, Texas where he grew up. Lee was an avid hunter and fisher, and there was always a story or two following his outdoor adventures. He enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it be at the lake, supporting kids and grandkids, or just a routine hunting trip. Lee always had his bag packed and ready to go for the next excursion, wherever it may be.
